Barrigun and beyond

"Emu, emu, EMU!"
One of the funniest sights heading up to Barrigun was two emus by the side of the road, standing in a dip with grass so high that only their heads were visible!

We saw a wedge-tailed eagle on this stretch of drive too - poised beside the road in picture-perfect position (until we turned around and he caught sight of the camera).  The "wedgies" are quite camera-shy, it would seem!

Barrigun (on the Queensland border) was so cold - I was quite comfortable walking around (and being photographed) in my snow jacket!  We stopped for a geocaching break, which was interesting. Years ago Barrigun was a stop-over for Cobb & Co coaches.  Some GPS units still recognise the various (long-gone) streets.

In all the times I had passed through here, I had never strayed far from the road.  There is actually a river just behind the tree-line in the pic below.  Not much of a river when we were there but apparently it does flood.

Ah yes, the sunshine state!
Although we enjoyed the break (and found the cache!), we were happy to be back in the car and getting closer to Cunnamulla, Eulo - and Yowah!

Typically, Vaughan wanted to stop and catch some!
