Barkly Homestead to Gunpowder Rest Area ...

We've encountered quite a few guinea fowl this trip.  It's funny to see them in so many out of the way places. One of them was very vocal during the night!

About 40 minutes after leaving Barkly Homestead, we pulled over so we could take photos of the huge termite mounds, beside that stretch of road.

I hadn't seen all the grevillea from the road.  What a sight!

There was much excitement a bit further along, when I saw another truck sign for my growing collection!

The sign initially travelled in the drawbar storage box but no longer fit after straightening.

I found Long, Road and Oversize in February 2022, all in the Moree area (but we decided Oversize was far too bent-up to salvage).

My second Train was found in September 2021, en route to Julia Creek - after finding the first Train near Miles, in 2020.

We were at a rest area, half-way between Barkly and Camoweal - 130km in either direction - when a young group needed assistance.  It turned out their vehicle had over-heated - cos the driver refilled water earlier in the day but forgot to replace the radiator cap.

Fortunately the cap was still in the engine bay, after quite some long distance travelled!

Nick had some coolant, then was able to retrieve more from their reservoir. We had plenty of water to share.

There was discussion as to which direction they should travel for more permanent help.  One of other travellers was going to follow them  to Camooweal, in case they had more issues along the way.

We free-camped at Gunpowder Rest Area, about 50km west of Mt Isa.

It was 36 degrees on arrival, so we plonked ourselves in the shade of the camper.  There were red-backed fairywrens flitting about in the shrubs, quite a few small flies and some lovely native bees. Someone had left a cut-down milk container near the wash stand at the loo - filled with rocks and some water - as a drinking station for the wildlife.
